Just when you thought Gingrich could not seem any more unintelligent.
Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich suggested at a Fox News forum hosted by Mike Huckabee in South Carolina on Saturday that it would be a good idea to fire federal employees for being too liberal. Federal law, on the other hand, says Gingrich’s plan would be illegal.
“I think an intelligent conservative wants the right federal employees delivering the right services in a highly efficient way and then wants to get rid of those folks who are in fact wasteful, or those folks who are ideologically so far to the left, or those people who want to frankly dictate to the rest of us,” Gingrich said in response to a question from a federal employee at the forum (emphasis ours).
This sounds like it would be uncomfortably close to being in conflict with a federal law making it illegal to take any personnel action against an employee “based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicapping condition, marital status, or political affiliation.” Accusations that political affiliation was taken into account would be investigated by the Office of Special Counsel (except in certain government agencies).
That said, a putative Gingrich administration would be following in the footsteps of George W. Bush’s. A report by the Justice Department’s internal investigators found that Bush administration officials discriminated against liberal employees in the Civil Rights Division and hired lawyers based on their conservative ideology.
Yeah, find a job! What’s wrong with you?
I don’t know about you, but this just punched me in my truth bone. I think it’s located around my spleen.

Seriously, do the Republicans want the U.S. defense budget to plunge into the subterranean? Our military is already spread extremely thin with troops still in Iraq and Afghanistan and now we’re just going to start another conflict? The Obama Administration is attempting, through sanctions, to resolve the conflict without the use of military force. However, according to Romney, Obama is being “naive”. Newsflash Romney, maybe we should try all other options before having to begin military conflict in Iran and spend millions of dollars more each day in defense.
I love the phrase Romney uses: “If you want peace, prepare for war.” Actually, the last two wars have not led to peace, they’ve led to stalemates and the destruction of the United States’ reputation abroad. The LAST thing we need is another U.S. military conflict with a Middle Eastern nation.
Might I just add that this is beginning that this is beginning to sound very Orwellian. The U.S. is always at war with Afghanistan, or was it Iraq? Iran, maybe? Soon no one will know or care anymore.

Freedom of Speech/right to assemble my ass.
I find it ironic that Republicans have such disdain for the lazy, and yet their solution to everything is do nothing. Their answer to wealth inequality? Do nothing. Healthcare? Do nothing. Climate change? Nothing. Racism? Doesn’t exist. For a group of people so head over heels in love with self-reliance, they sure do recommend a lot of sitting on (one’s) ass.
If A Christmas Carol was performed by the Tea Party Dramatic Society, it would be a cautionary tale about how the hero, Scrooge — a blameless job creator — is turned into a socialist through the corrupting influence of Tiny Tim. And the play would end with a simple, plaintive question from Mr. Scrooge: ‘Just how much of my wealth does Mr. Tim think he’s entitled to?’
And that is the great Republican fallacy of this election: that our economic problem are due not to Wall Street’s gambling, but because too many Americans are lazy. But there are 16 million unemployed, and we only created 80,000 jobs last month. The problem isn’t laziness — it’s math.
This is where the Republican Party is now: in favor of people dying because they don’t have health insurance. In favor of letting people go unfed if they won’t work. And if they wanna work, but are Mexicans, in favor of putting up a fence that electrocutes them.
